Pitching Performance Defines Outcome
Baltimore Orioles starter Brandon Young delivered a masterful pitching display, allowing just one earned run over seven innings to earn the win. Young struck out seven batters while issuing only one walk, effectively neutralizing the Houston Astros lineup for the majority of the game. His performance improved his season record to 8-2.
He was supported by relief pitchers Rico Garcia and Grant Wolfram. Garcia worked one inning, giving up one earned run on two hits, while Wolfram closed out the game with a scoreless eighth inning to secure his first save of the season.
Houston’s starting pitcher Hunter Brown took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year after struggling with control and allowing four earned runs in 4.2 innings.

The Orioles established an early lead in the third inning. After a single by Henderson sent Holliday home to make it 1-0, Henderson stole home to extend the advantage to 2-0. The Astros responded briefly in the same frame when Alvarez doubled to right field, allowing Altuve to score, bringing the deficit to 2-1.
Baltimore regained control in the fifth inning when Taveras singled to left field, driving in two runs as Alonso and Ward crossed the plate to make it 4-1. The Orioles added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Mayo hit a home run to right center, a 384-foot shot that pushed the score to 5-1.
