Langford’s Power Shifts Momentum

Wyatt Langford provided the decisive offensive spark for the Texas Rangers on Sunday, launching a three-run home run that established an early lead in a close contest against the San Diego Padres. The blast, which traveled 403 feet to left field in the third inning, also drove in players Higashioka and Lopez, giving Texas a 3-0 advantage. This power display was the only multi-run scoring event of the game and proved sufficient to secure the 4-3 final result.

Padres Rally in Fourth

San Diego responded quickly in the bottom of the fourth inning, mounting a rally that tied the game at 3-3. The Padres loaded the bases and capitalized on timely hitting. Sheets opened the threat with a single to right field, allowing Merrill to score from second base. Bogaerts followed with a single to center, bringing Machado home while Sheets was thrown out at the plate. The inning continued with Song doubling to right to score Bogaerts, making it 3-2. Jung then singled to left, scoring Lopez and completing the comeback to tie the score. The Rangers managed only one additional run later in the inning via Jung’s single, which also advanced Langford to second.

Eovaldi Dominates on the Mound

Nathan Eovaldi earned the win for Texas, delivering a strong pitching performance that kept the Padres off balance. He pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while issuing just one walk. Eovaldi recorded nine strikeouts, demonstrating his ability to miss bats effectively throughout his outing. He improved his record to 7-7 with the victory.

The Rangers’ bullpen maintained the lead after Eovaldi’s departure. Peyton Gray pitched a perfect inning to preserve the lead, earning his third hold. Robby Ahlstrom followed with another scoreless frame, picking up his first hold of the season. Jakob Junis closed out the game with one hitless inning, securing his fifth save of the year.

Padres Pitching Struggles

San Diego’s starting pitcher, Lucas Giolito, took the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits over four innings. He walked two batters and struck out two. Wandy Peralta, Kyle Hart, Ron Marinaccio, and Yuki Matsui pitched the remaining innings for the Padres. Peralta threw one hitless inning with no walks or strikeouts. Hart recorded two strikeouts in his frame. Marinaccio allowed one hit and one walk. Matsui walked one batter and struck out one.

The game was played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with an attendance of 36,311. The win improves the Texas Rangers’ record to 37-40, while the San Diego Padres fall to 39-37.
