Decisive Inning
The Houston Astros overcame an early offensive slump by capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting in the final frame, securing a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. The game remained tight until the bottom of the ninth, when Houston erupted for four runs to break a 4-4 tie.
The scoring sequence in the ninth began with Alex Bregman singled, allowing Jeremy Peña to score and make it 5-4. That run was followed by Jose Altuve reaching base on a fielding error by Angels pitcher Sam Bachman, which allowed Peña to score again and give Houston the lead, 6-4.
Prior to the late surge, the Angels had established control of the contest. Los Angeles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first two innings. In the top of the first, Zach Neto scored on a sacrifice fly by Luke Trammell, followed by Anthony Volpe scoring on a single by Grissom.
The Angels added to their advantage in the third inning when Grissom hit a home run to left-center field and Adell drove in Lowe with a double.
Astros Response
Houston’s offense finally found its rhythm in the fourth inning. Trammell homered to center field, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Astros continued to chip away at the Angels’ lead in the eighth inning when Alvarez singled to left, allowing Peña to score and make it 4-2.
The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the ninth. After Allen reached base on a fielder's choice involving Trammell scoring on an error by second baseman Grissom, Paredes was hit by pitch. A challenge by Los Angeles regarding the hit-by-pitch call was upheld.
