Doug McNamee, Baylor's new athletic director, has not set a specific win total for head coach Dave Aranda to meet in order to keep his position past the 2026 season. Instead, McNamee stressed the significance of building momentum and enhancing support for the football program.
In comments reported by CBS Sports, McNamee remarked that the focus should not solely be on numbers but rather on the overall atmosphere surrounding the program. He indicated that creating a competitive environment in the Big 12 and adapting to the changing landscape of name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities are crucial.
McNamee urged fans to show greater commitment, whether by attending games or contributing to NIL initiatives and scholarships. He emphasized the need for increased investment from supporters, stating that both passive viewership and active financial support are essential.
Aranda's record at Baylor is currently 36-37, following a successful 2021 season. However, the team has faced challenges, with a 22-28 record and three losing seasons in the last four years, including a disappointing finish in 2025.
As Baylor gears up for the season opener against Auburn on September 5, McNamee made it clear that progress and belief in the program are vital for securing ongoing support. He noted that the program must create a compelling narrative to attract investment and support.
