SMU senior Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award after leading the Mustangs to a 1-0 win over NC State. The conference announced Tuesday that Panozzo was selected as co-defensive player of the week with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly.
Panozzo, a Sarasota, Florida, native, captained SMU’s defense in the team’s ACC home opener and scored the match’s only goal. The Mustangs limited NC State to eight shots, two of them on target, while recording their fifth shutout of the season. The honor is SMU’s second conference weekly award this season.
SMU moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll following the victory. The Mustangs are 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in ACC play. Their next conference match is scheduled for Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
