As the Dallas Cowboys near the end of their training camp in Oxnard, they are addressing concerns about their offensive line depth. While the starting lineup is established, the team is focusing on finding suitable candidates for backup positions, particularly after the season-ending injury to veteran Matt Hennessy.
Hennessy was initially expected to fill in for starter Cooper Beebe if needed, but his injury has left a significant gap. T.J. Bass has emerged as the primary backup center, despite his inexperience in that role. Bass, who has been a reliable guard, started at center for two series in the first preseason game before being replaced by Nick Leverett.
Leverett, who joined the practice squad last November and has experience as a guard, has also worked extensively as a backup center. The Cowboys are considering both players as they finalize their backup center plans, which are crucial given Beebe's injury history last season.
Currently, Bass is seen as the leading candidate, but Leverett's performance could impact the decision as the team seeks to solidify its offensive line depth.
