The Dallas Cowboys reportedly signed Tyler Goodson on Tuesday, adding a running back after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that requires surgery and will end his season. The move changes the team's available depth while also filling a special teams need created by Davis' absence.
Goodson, 25, is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds. He played in 33 games for Indianapolis over the last three seasons, rushing 54 times for 264 yards, or 4.9 yards per attempt. He also logged 304 special teams snaps over the previous two seasons.
Before joining Dallas, he attended Atlanta's training camp, was released and cleared waivers, then returned to the Falcons' practice squad. Green Bay originally signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023, but the Packers released him before Indianapolis picked him up.
Against the Giants, Emari Demercado was Dallas' second running back and had two carries for 7 yards. Javonte Williams handled 12 of the Cowboys' 18 rushing attempts, adding five receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. Goodson ran for 1,151 yards and six touchdowns in his last Iowa season, earned All-Big Ten recognition and posted a 4.42-second 40-yard dash.
Israel Abanikanda had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and his status after Goodson's arrival was unclear. Sports.yahoo.com reported the signing, citing Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson.
