Von Miller has joined the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract, aiming to bolster the team's defense. This signing occurs as the Cowboys are undergoing significant changes, including the addition of around six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Miller, who recorded nine sacks in 2025 while playing for the Washington Commanders, is expected to bring valuable experience to Dallas.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed trust in Miller's capabilities, highlighting his sharp football knowledge and remaining agility. Schottenheimer indicated that while Miller might not be on the field for every play, his involvement will positively impact the team's defensive strategy. He praised Miller's understanding of the game, noting his exceptional intellect and ability to read plays effectively.
In the 2025 season, Miller appeared in 17 games with the Commanders, starting three and participating in 420 defensive snaps, which represented 37 percent of the team's overall defensive plays. In Dallas, he is anticipated to have a comparable role, likely contributing during key moments such as third downs.
Miller's impressive career includes being the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft from Texas A&M, winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and earning Super Bowl MVP honors. He has two Super Bowl victories, one with the Denver Broncos and another with the Los Angeles Rams.
Currently, he stands as the active player with the highest career sack total at 138.5 and is tied with Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for 13th place on the all-time list, just 3.5 sacks away from entering the top 10.
