Nate Bennett will make the first start of his college career when Baylor faces Prairie View A&M in Week 2, Pete Thamel reported. DJ Lagway has been ruled out because of a high-ankle sprain from Baylor’s season opener against Auburn.

Lagway stayed in Baylor’s 17-16 loss after sustaining the injury. He completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Earlier in the week, coach Dave Aranda had called Lagway day to day. On3 reported that Lagway had tried to play through the injury but was considered doubtful for the Prairie View A&M game.

Baylor is 0-1 after scoring a touchdown in the final seconds against Auburn and missing a two-point conversion that would have won the game. The source did not say whether Lagway’s condition influenced the decision to attempt the conversion. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend, then open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.

No further details were provided about Lagway’s recovery timeline.
