University of Houston football player Carmello Brooks remains suspended from the team while two criminal cases are pending, his attorney said. Brooks appeared in court Monday on allegations that include assaulting a pregnant person and criminal mischief.
Nariah Harley, who is connected to the assault case, told the judge she wants prosecutors to dismiss the charge. Harley said an argument occurred inside Brooks’ apartment last week, and that Brooks repeatedly asked her to leave before lifting her and placing her outside when she refused. She said Brooks called police himself and is the father of her baby.
Harley told the court she does not consider herself a victim and wants all charges dismissed so they can move forward.
Attorney Brent Wasserstein said officers’ body-camera footage recorded the encounter. Prosecutors also plan to review a 911 call Brooks made. The other case stems from an August dispute in northwest Harris County involving another woman and her sister.
Brooks is accused of damaging a door handle. Family members said Brooks and the women grew up together in Killeen and attended high school together. Harley is also from Killeen and attends Texas Southern University.
