A resident of The Colony has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to assist an 81-year-old man who has been working as a luggage courier to cover medical expenses for his spouse. Erin Howell, who lives in the community, started the GoFundMe after observing Donald Johnson struggling to deliver lost bags to her home.
Johnson, an independent contractor, has spent the last three years transporting luggage to generate income. He explained to Howell that he took on this physically demanding work to pay for the treatment of Josephine, his wife of 57 years, who is currently fighting cancer.
When asked why he continues to perform such labor at his age, Johnson stated, "It's the only job that will hire me."
The campaign details indicate that Johnson has accumulated more than 200,000 miles on his vehicle while performing these deliveries. This extensive mileage has reportedly led to mechanical issues with the car. Howell stated that the funds raised will be directed specifically toward Josephine's medical bills.
Additionally, the money is intended to allow Johnson to stop working so he can dedicate his time to caring for his wife.
