THE COLONY, Texas — The City of The Colony is making final preparations for its annual Liberty by the Lake celebration, a four-day Independence Day festival that draws thousands of residents and visitors to the lakeside community.

The carnival runs Wednesday, July 2, through Saturday, July 5, with wristbands available for $27 in advance through July 1 and $32 starting July 2. The main event takes place Friday, July 4, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at The Athletic Club, capped by a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. sponsored by CoServ.

Live entertainment includes the Emerald City Band's Elevation and two Lucha Libre wrestling shows at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., sponsored by Whataburger. A watermelon-eating contest is scheduled for 7 p.m., and a food court with multiple vendors and food trucks will be available throughout the evening.

The day begins with a parade at 10 a.m. from Peters Colony Elementary to The Colony High School, followed by a 5K and fun run at Stewart Creek Park. A free shuttle service will run from The Colony Recreation Center and Griffin Middle School to the festival entrance from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Due to preparations for Liberty by the Lake, the weekly Summer Clubhouse children's entertainment series is on hiatus this week and will resume later at The Colony Recreation Center. The city's Parks and Recreation department also announced that registration for the Back to School Bash on July 22 opens July 1, with free school supplies for the first 500 registered children ages 5 through 12.
