Lewisville ISD students, including those at The Colony's campuses, return to class Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The schedule they return to is not last year's. The board approved two changes in January that both take effect now.
The day is 10 minutes longer, and the order has flipped
The board added 10 minutes of instructional time, moving the student day from 435 minutes to 445. The district said that brings it closer to neighboring districts.
The board also switched the middle school and high school start times. Middle schoolers now start earlier than high schoolers, reversing the order families were used to.
Here are the 2026-27 hours:
- High school: 8:50 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. (early release 1 p.m.)
- Middle school: doors open 7:40 a.m., school day 8:15 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. (early release 12:20 p.m.)
- Elementary, including STEM: 7:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. (early release 11:45 a.m.)
- Early childhood centers: 7:25 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
Half-day early childhood special education runs 7:40 to 10:51 a.m. and 11:54 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. at elementary campuses, and 7:25 to 10:36 a.m. and 11:39 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. at early childhood centers.
Households with both a middle schooler and a high schooler will feel this most, since the two are no longer leaving in the order they did last spring.
