The animated series "King of the Hill" has returned with a new season, featuring 10 episodes released on Hulu on July 20. The show, which originally premiered in 1997, is set in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas, modeled after Richardson, Texas. This marks the second season since the series was revived in 2025, with Hulu already renewing it for a 17th season.
Co-creator Mike Judge has acknowledged Richardson as the inspiration for Arlen. Having lived in Richardson during the 1990s, Judge has noted that while Arlen is a composite of various Dallas-area suburbs, it captures the essence of the region, including wide streets and backyard grills.
In a more direct connection, Season 15 features the University of Texas at Dallas, located in Richardson, with its mascot Temoc appearing in the episodes.
The season also includes references to other North Texas landmarks, such as Hank Hill repairing Big Tex at the State Fair of Texas and the inclusion of Whataburger. The storyline follows Hank and Peggy as they navigate retirement while their son Bobby, now an adult, runs a fusion restaurant in Dallas and pursues a spot on a reality cooking show.
The voice cast returns, including Judge, Kathy Najimy, and Pamela Adlon, among others.
