Groups that want a spot in this year's Parade of Lights, and performers hoping for time on the community stage, can now sign up for The Colony's Holiday in the Park.
The free Parks and Recreation event is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Perryman Park, 4930 South Colony Blvd. The city's event page lists holiday music and performances, activities, rides and a lighted trail, and notes that the parade steps off at 6:45 p.m.
Getting into the parade
The city's online entry form sorts entries into three categories:
- Commercial: businesses of any kind.
- Float/Trailer: any entry with a trailer pulled by a vehicle.
- Vehicle/Walking: car clubs, vehicle groups or walking groups with no float or trailer.
Entrants list a contact, a ZIP code and how many cars, trucks or trailers they plan to bring. The event page shows first-, second- and third-place awards in each category plus a Best in Show prize. It does not post an entry deadline.
Performing on the community stage
Applications for the community stage close at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. Solo acts and groups of up to 25 people are eligible, any type of talent will be considered, and the city says acts with a Christmas theme get preference.
Each performance can run no longer than 15 minutes. The application asks for at least one photo of the act, an optional video, the performers' ages and any accessibility needs. The events team picks the lineup.
