Clement delivers in the 10th

Clement broke a tied game with a two-run homer in the 10th inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays held off the Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park in Houston.

Urías scored on Clement’s homer to left, a 391-foot drive that gave Toronto a 5-3 lead. Houston answered in the bottom of the inning when Alvarez singled to right and Peña scored, cutting the margin to one. Alvarez was out stretching at second, and Houston’s challenge was unsuccessful after the call on the field was upheld.

Houston builds early lead

Houston scored all of its first three runs in the third inning. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left for a 1-0 Astros lead. Walker followed later in the inning with a double to left that scored Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker for a 3-0 advantage.

Toronto was held without a run until the sixth inning. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, trimming Houston’s lead to 3-1. Sánchez then tied the game with a two-run homer to right, a 398-foot shot that scored Okamoto and made it 3-3.

Those were the only runs until Clement’s 10th-inning swing. The game featured three home runs: Altuve’s third-inning homer, Sánchez’s sixth-inning homer and Clement’s 10th-inning homer.

Pitching keeps game tight

Jameson Taillon allowed three earned runs on six hits over four innings for Toronto, with two walks and four strikeouts. Spencer Miles followed with two scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty pitched one inning with no hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in one scoreless inning. Louis Varland pitched one inning with no hits, no walks and one strikeout and earned the win, improving to 4-4. Chase Lee allowed one hit in one inning and recorded his first save.

For Houston, Hunter Brown worked six innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched a scoreless inning. Bennett Sousa allowed two hits and one earned run in one inning and took the loss, falling to 0-1.

Records

The Blue Jays improved to 54-61 with the win. The Astros fell to 59-57. Attendance was 27,751 at Daikin Park.
