Bazzana’s Historic Offensive Display

Travis Bazzana delivered a career-defining performance for the Cleveland Guardians, launching three home runs to lead his team to an 8-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday at Daikin Park. The away team’s offense was powered by Bazzana’s explosive hitting, which included a solo shot in the first inning and a massive three-run blast in the fifth inning that effectively sealed the game.

Bazzana opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a 382-foot home run to right center, giving Cleveland a 1-0 lead. The Guardians extended their advantage in the third inning when Manny Manzardo homered to right center, measuring 388 feet, with Bazzana scoring from first base to make it 3-1. Houston responded briefly in the bottom of the second inning when Diaz singled to right field, allowing Paredes to score and tying the game at 1-1, with Altuve reaching third base.

Guardians Pull Away in the Fifth

The turning point of the contest arrived in the fifth inning when Bazzana connected again, this time driving a ball 406 feet to right center. This three-run home run included runs from Kwan and Bailey, pushing the score to 6-1 in favor of Cleveland. The Astros’ pitching staff struggled to contain the Guardians’ bats, particularly after Spencer Arrighetti took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits over six innings.

Cleveland added insurance runs in the seventh inning. Bazzana singled to right field, allowing Bailey to score, making it 7-1. Shortly after, Manzardo singled to right, scoring Halpin to extend the lead to 8-1. Bazzana reached second base on the play, completing his three-hit, three-home-run day.

Pitching Performance Seals the Win

Cleveland’s starting pitcher, Joey Cantillo, earned the win by pitching eight innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. He was supported by reliever Matt Festa, who pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Cantillo improved his record to 6-3 with the victory.

For Houston, Spencer Arrighetti took the loss, dropping his record to 7-3. He allowed six runs on six hits over six innings, striking out eight batters. Nate Pearson pitched one inning, giving up two runs on four hits, while AJ Blubaugh and Bryan Abreu each pitched one scoreless inning, with Blubaugh recording three strikeouts. Abreu recorded no strikeouts in his appearance.

Final Score and Records

The Guardians’ 8-1 win improved their record to 41-36 for the season. The Astros fell to 36-42. The game was played in front of 32,678 fans at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. Cleveland’s offense was led by Bazzana’s three home runs, while Houston managed only one run all game. The Guardians now hold a winning record, while the Astros remain below .500.
