Fifth-inning swing decides it
Houston broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning when Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell then gave the Astros separation with the game’s only home run, a 388-foot drive to right that scored Walker and Altuve for a 6-2 lead.
The four-run fifth sent the Houston Astros to a 7-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park. Trammell’s homer was the largest scoring play of the game, and Altuve added another run-scoring hit later as Houston finished with seven runs.
Astros build, Blue Jays answer
Houston took the first lead in the bottom of the fourth. Diaz singled to left, scoring Altuve and moving Trammell to second for a 1-0 lead. Smith followed with a single to left, and Trammell scored on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, with Smith reaching second and Diaz reaching third on the error.
Toronto tied it in the top of the fifth. Straw tripled to center, bringing in Giménez to cut the deficit to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, making it 2-2.
Houston responded in the bottom half with Altuve’s infield single and Trammell’s three-run homer. The Astros added their final run in the bottom of the seventh when Altuve singled to center, scoring Walker for a 7-2 lead.
