Late Surge Seals Victory

Houston Astros secured an 8-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, fueled by a decisive two-run double in the eighth inning that turned a tie game into a lead they would not relinquish. The win improved the Astros' record to 41-44, while the Tigers fell to 35-48.

Early Home Runs Set Tone

The game featured exactly three home runs, with the Astros taking an early 2-0 lead in the second inning when Smith connected on a 380-foot shot to left field, driving in Walker. Houston added another run in the third inning when Peña scored on a groundout that resulted in a double play, making the score 3-0.

However, Detroit responded immediately in the same inning with a four-run explosion. Carpenter launched a 390-foot home run to right-center field, bringing in McGonigle, Keith, and Torkelson to give the home team a 4-3 advantage.

Pitching Struggles Define Middle Innings

The Tigers extended their lead to 5-4 in the fourth inning when Torkelson doubled to left, scoring Rogers. Lee then homered to left-center field in the fifth inning, extending Detroit's lead to 6-4.

Houston began chipping away at the deficit in the seventh inning when Walker singled to left, allowing Paredes to score and tying the game at 6-6. The tie was maintained until the eighth inning, where a series of hits and errors shifted momentum. Peña singled to center, and Diaz scored on an error by center fielder Outman, tying the game at 6-6 with two outs.

Deciding Moments in the Eighth

With the score tied, Paredes delivered the game-winning hit by doubling to right field. He scored on the play, and Vázquez also crossed the plate, giving Houston an 8-6 lead. The Astros' bullpen held the Tigers scoreless in the top of the ninth to complete the win.
