As the regular season nears, the Houston Texans are encountering difficulties in improving their wide receiver corps. Despite recent roster enhancements, including the addition of Jadeveon Clowney, a former No. 1 overall pick, and defensive lineman Mario Edwards, the team has not significantly altered its wide receiver group, opting to depend on younger talent already present.
The Texans' chances of securing a notable wide receiver have diminished, especially after top free agents like Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen signed with other teams. While Tyreek Hill remains available, concerns regarding his recovery from a torn ACL injury make his signing unlikely.
Other receivers such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins may not provide substantial upgrades to the current roster.
The team may continue with its existing wide receiver lineup, featuring Nico Collins as the likely WR1 and Jayden Higgins as a potential WR2. Additional contributions are expected from players like Jaylin Noel, Xavier Hutchinson, and a healthy Tank Dell. Despite the lack of major signings, the Texans' front office maintains confidence in their current group.
With over $20 million in cap space, they retain the option to make moves if needed, but the chances of acquiring another significant wide receiver before the season appears low.
