Florida State coach Mike Norvell said the Seminoles are keeping their attention on Saturday’s road game at No. 10 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, following Michael Alford’s firing as athletic director. Two freshman linebackers, Izayia Williams and Daylen Green, will miss the rest of the season. Veteran linebacker Blake Nichelson is expected back this year, but his absence will last an extended period. Norvell said those setbacks may open roles for other players on defense and special teams.
Norvell called the SMU loss disappointing but said it did not reduce his confidence in the 1-1 Seminoles. He praised quarterback Ashton Daniels’ weekly preparation, including his practice habits and focus on controllable areas. Norvell said Alabama’s defense is fast and explosive, with a larger front than last season.
Florida State will need balanced offense, strong individual matchups and big plays, while also accounting for Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell’s ability to run outside the pocket.
