Murakami Dominates Offense
Gunnar Murakami delivered a commanding performance at the plate, hitting two home runs and driving in six runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros. Murakami’s offensive output was the centerpiece of a multi-run inning that effectively sealed the game in the seventh.
He opened the scoring in the first with a solo shot to left field, then added a two-run homer later in the frame. His second multi-hit performance came in the seventh, where he singled to center to score two more runs, followed by an eighth-inning solo home run to right center.
Early Scoring and Pitching Struggles
The White Sox struck first in the top of the first inning when Peña homered to left field, putting Chicago ahead 1-0. Houston’s starting pitcher, Ronel Blanco, struggled to contain the offense, allowing five earned runs over 5.1 innings. Blanco took the loss, dropping his record to 0-1.
He was relieved by Enyel De Los Santos, Bryan King, and Miguel Ullola, who combined to allow additional runs. The Astros’ bullpen allowed three earned runs in the eighth inning alone as Perez homered and Meidroth scored, extending the lead to 11-3 before Murakami’s final homer.
