Houston took control quickly in the top half of the game. In the first inning, Peña connected with a blast to left center field, traveling 440 feet, to give the home team a 1-0 lead. He followed up with another solo shot to left field in the third inning, a 370-foot drive, to make it 2-0.
The Royals managed to answer in the fifth inning when Nicky Lopez doubled to left field, allowing Alex Bregman to score and cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the Astros' bullpen and lineup proved too much for Kansas City to overcome in the late frames.
Pitching Duel and Bullpen Work
Hunter Brown anchored the Astros' starting rotation, throwing five innings of work. He allowed two hits and one earned run while walking three batters and striking out 10. His performance set the stage for the relief corps to secure the win.
The Royals' Michael Wacha took the loss, pitching six innings while allowing four hits and four earned runs on one walk and two strikeouts. He was followed by Lucas Erceg and Jose Cuas, who each pitched one inning without allowing earned runs.
