Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham forced a fumble early in the third quarter, and the Cowboys turned it into a touchdown two plays later. Dee Winters recovered the loose ball inside Washington’s 20-yard line after a screen pass, setting up Jake Ferguson’s score and a 27-13 Dallas advantage.
The Cowboys won 37-20 at AT&T Stadium to move to 1-1 after losing 28-20 at the New York Giants in their opener. Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes without an interception, while CeeDee Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards and two scores.
Lamb’s 24-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter gave Prescott 249 career touchdown passes, one more than Tony Romo’s Dallas record of 248, according to The Associated Press. Lamb has caught 37 of Prescott’s touchdown passes, the most by any receiver, and gave him the record-setting ball. “That made me emotional,” Prescott said, according to the AP.
Brandon Aubrey supplied 13 points by making kicks of 25, 44 and 60 yards and converting four extra-point attempts. Dallas went 7-for-11 on third down and committed no turnovers, although Washington had the yardage edge, 389-332, including 182 rushing yards. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels left with a dislocated left elbow, and coach Dan Quinn said imaging found no fracture.
Marcus Mariota finished the game. Dallas next plays Baltimore in Brazil on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 3:25 p.m. Central at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, with the Cowboys designated as the home team.
