Lewisville ISD's first look at this year's test data shows more third graders on track than a year ago, but none of the district's elementary campuses has yet reached its end-of-year goal in reading or math.
The figures are in a student learning update on the agenda for the board's Monday, Nov. 9 meeting. The district, which serves The Colony, gave the i-Ready reading and math assessments to third graders in September.
Third grade
In reading, 74% of third graders scored where the district expects them to be at this point in the year, up from 71% last fall. Another 15% were a little behind and 11% were flagged at risk, compared with 14% a year earlier.
Math results were similar: 77% on track, up from 73%, with 8% at risk.
The board set goals in October for 78.5% of third graders to meet grade level in reading and 76.5% in math by the end of the year. Measured against those spring targets, no campus has met its reading goal and three are within 10%. In math, 14 campuses are 30% to 50% away and 19 are more than 50% away.
District staff note that i-Ready measures where students stand relative to end-of-year goals.
Younger grades and middle school
Among kindergarten through second grade, between 28.4% and 38.5% of students had already met their end-of-year reading targets, and between 17.2% and 25.6% in math. In grades 6-8, the first year the district has used i-Ready there, 64% were on track in reading and 69% in math, with 27% and 20% at risk.
