Peterbilt's Denton truck plant, roughly 17 miles northwest of The Colony, hosted President Donald Trump on Thursday for a speech to employees that mixed economic claims with Senate campaigning.

Trump said tariffs on imported trucks have helped the plant grow, and the company credited that policy with 1,000 new positions at its Denton operation. Preston Feight, chief executive of parent company Paccar, told the crowd the tariffs are good for the company and its customers, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Among the officials Trump recognized was U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill, whose redrawn 26th District includes all of The Colony, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported. Trump also praised Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate nominee, and attacked his Democratic opponent, state Rep. James Talarico. Democrats called the tour a desperate midterm push; Republicans said it was energizing their base.

Trump left by motorcade for a rally in Durant, Oklahoma.
