A Defensive Stranglehold Defines the Contest
The Texas Tech Red Raiders secured their fifth consecutive victory on Saturday, dismantling the Colorado Buffaloes 29-7 in Boulder. While the final margin might suggest a blowout, the game was initially defined by Colorado’s offensive output in the first quarter before Texas Tech’s defense tightened its grip.
The Buffaloes, playing at home at Folsom Field with an attendance of 50,106, managed only seven points total, all coming in the opening period.
Colorado started strong on offense, driven by quarterback Isaac Wilson. Wilson completed 26 of 44 passes for 290 yards and one touchdown while adding 17 carries for 42 rushing yards. His connection with receiver Joseph Williams was pivotal early on; Williams hauled in ten receptions for 93 yards, including the game’s only touchdown from eight yards out in the first quarter.
Harrington Keeps Tech in Contention
Texas Tech responded with a 52-yard field goal by kicker Stone Harrington to make it 7-3 at halftime. The second quarter remained scoreless, setting up a critical third period where Texas Tech’s defense began to dominate. Although the Red Raiders failed on their first two-point conversion attempt after Terrance Carter Jr.’s 11-yard touchdown catch from Will Hammond, they maintained possession and control.
Hammond, making his mark in the win, finished 17-of-26 passing for 134 yards and one touchdown. Running back J’Koby Williams provided a strong ground game with 17 carries for 88 yards, helping Tech sustain drives when it mattered most. Carter Jr. added eight receptions for 67 yards to complement his scoring effort.
