Sandell’s final kick decides it
Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal on the final scoring play gave Oklahoma a 27-24 victory over Texas on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The kick moved the Sooners in front after the teams had exchanged three touchdowns during the fourth quarter.
Texas led 7-0 after the opening quarter. Cam Coleman scored on a 41-yard pass from Arch Manning, with Gianni Spetic adding the extra point. Oklahoma answered in the second period when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, followed by Sandell’s kick.
Lead changes build
Texas regained the lead on Manning’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo, and Spetic’s 23-yard field goal extended the Longhorns’ advantage to 17-7. The quarter ended with Texas ahead 10-7 in the period and 17-7 overall.
Oklahoma’s Sandell opened the second-half scoring with a 53-yard field goal, making the score 17-10. The Sooners then tied the game in the fourth quarter on Lloyd Avant’s 2-yard run and Sandell’s extra point.
Texas went back in front when Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell adding the kick for a 24-17 score. Oklahoma tied it again on Jermaine Bishop Jr.’s 15-yard touchdown reception from Manning, followed by Spetic’s extra point. Sandell then delivered the deciding field goal.
