An opening-week fair trip does not have to begin in the morning. The State Fair of Texas' 2026 gate pricing offers adults and seniors $10 admission after 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, creating a lower-cost entry point for an evening visit.

The shorter visit has a natural pair of scheduled events. The Starlight Parade is listed nightly at 7 p.m., followed by Illumination Sensation at 7:45 p.m. on the Esplanade.
