The Houston Texans have added wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley to their practice squad, as reported by The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov on August 31. Tinsley, who is 26 years old and stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, previously played for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he made eight receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns last season.

His exit from Cincinnati comes as the team has a strong roster of wide receivers, leading to interest from several teams.

The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. noted that Tinsley likely views Houston as a better opportunity for playing time, particularly as the Texans have been looking to bolster their wide receiver depth this month. He joins fellow players Lewis Bond and Josh Kelly on the practice squad, according to Sleeper affiliate Jacob Barzilla.

Tinsley had a notable preseason in 2025, which earned him a spot on the Bengals' roster.

Having gone undrafted, Tinsley has made four starts in his 19 regular-season games. He is known as a possession receiver with strong ball skills, although he may struggle with speed and quickness. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described him as effective at making tough catches, especially in the middle of the field, despite some athletic limitations.

The Texans' need for additional wide receiver support has grown following Jayden Higgins' torn ACL. In response, the team also acquired Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots after considering options among free agents. Further details regarding Tinsley’s specific role with the Texans are still unclear.
