Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson can play for the Longhorns this season under a temporary injunction, according to sports.yahoo.com, which cited Chip Brown of Horns247. Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court issued the ruling.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. Coach Steve Sarkisian said Sept. 7 that an NCAA issue separate from the court case was still being handled. The order came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, but it did not establish when Hutson will return.
Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media on Thursday and could address his status.
Texas has used Dylan Sikorski, a transfer from Oregon State, as the starting left guard. That assignment went to Sikorski despite fall-camp expectations that Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore would take the job. During camp, quarterback Arch Manning said Hutson’s return to the team had surprised him and welcomed it.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had helped lead the locker room and had performed well during camp.
