The Houston Texans have made significant roster adjustments after injuries occurred during their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Graham Mertz has been placed on the Reserve/Injured list due to a knee injury that has been confirmed as season-ending by an MRI.
Rookie running back Joshua Pitsenberger has also been added to the injured reserve following an ankle injury sustained near the end of the game.
Mertz's injury took place just prior to halftime, compounding the challenges for the Texans, who were already managing a number of other injuries. Pitsenberger's injury further complicates the team's situation as they navigate their preseason roster.
In addition to Mertz and Pitsenberger, the injury report includes players such as Ja'Marcus Ingram with a shoulder issue, Collin Wright dealing with a soft tissue strain, and Jake Hansen who has an ankle injury. The Texans have managed to keep their starting lineup mostly intact, with the exception of linebacker E.J. Speed, who was injured earlier in the offseason.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff are likely to assess their options closely as they prepare for further roster changes during training camp. The team aims to maintain depth and performance as they progress through the preseason. Additional roster moves are expected as the Texans evaluate the impact of these injuries on their upcoming games.
