The Houston Texans have signed defensive end Chris Braswell, a former player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Braswell, who played at Alabama and was a five-star recruit in high school, recorded eight sacks and ten tackles for loss during his college career.
He stepped in as the Jack linebacker after Will Anderson Jr. and was second on the team in performance behind Dallas Turner, a first-round draft pick in 2024.
Despite his college success, Braswell struggled in the NFL after being drafted in the second round by Tampa Bay. He accumulated only two and a half sacks in two seasons and was released due to limited production and a lack of success in pass rushing. His preseason performance was hampered by injuries, and he was outperformed by other players on the team.
Now with the Texans, Braswell will join the practice squad, where he is expected to train as the team's only defensive end. He reunites with former Alabama teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall. Given the Texans' current injury challenges at the position, there is a chance he could be moved to the active roster soon.
Braswell will need to adapt to Houston's 4-3 defensive scheme, focusing on edge-setting and pass rushing, as he aims to meet the expectations that followed him from college.
