The Houston Texans have received encouraging news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is anticipated to be out for a few weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This update comes after a concerning incident during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
Ian Rapoport from NFL Network confirmed that while Smith's injury raises some concern, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a long-term absence. Jacob Barzilla from Sleeper mentioned that the Texans will likely require Smith's services at some point this season.
Smith joined the Texans in the offseason on a two-year deal worth $20 million, with expectations to assume the starting right tackle role. However, his injury adds to the existing uncertainty regarding the offensive line. Adam Schefter from ESPN indicated that Smith may be sidelined for several weeks, which is a preferable outcome compared to more serious injuries.
Currently, the Texans have former Pro Bowl player Trent Brown starting at right tackle, and they are pleased with the development of Blake Fisher, who has shown potential during the preseason.
Further updates on Smith's recovery and the Texans' offensive line will be provided as the season nears.
