The Houston Texans have added Junior Tafuna to their practice squad, as confirmed on social media on September 2, 2026. This signing marks Tafuna's return to the team after he initially played for them during his rookie season following an undrafted entry in 2025.

On August 5, Tafuna was let go by the Texans and was subsequently picked up by the New York Jets. However, he was among those released by the Jets during their roster cuts. Now back in Houston, Tafuna is anticipated to contribute to a team focused on a Super Bowl run.

Throughout his college career at Utah, Tafuna amassed a total of 108 combined tackles, 7.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and one forced fumble over four seasons. Analysts have commented that while Tafuna may not possess all the ideal characteristics sought in interior defenders, his athleticism could attract teams.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described him as tough at the line of scrimmage and able to handle double-teams, though he noted that his margin for error is limited.

Further updates regarding Tafuna's performance and role with the Texans are anticipated as the season unfolds.
