The Houston Texans are facing challenges with their wide receiver lineup as uncertainty surrounds Tank Dell's ability to play in the upcoming season opener. According to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, Dell is not anticipated to be ready for the team's first game.

He started taking part in practice during the second week of training camp, but his involvement has been restricted to individual drills and limited team exercises. Recently, he has not practiced in front of the media, further complicating his status.

Two league sources have indicated that Dell has not suffered a setback, but he is still unable to practice consistently. It appears that he will not participate in the Texans' last preseason game, and with just three weeks left before the season opener on September 13, his readiness remains uncertain.

This situation may prompt the Texans to maintain seven wide receivers on their 53-man roster while they await Dell's full recovery.

Additionally, the team is dealing with the ramifications of Jayden Higgins' ACL injury, which has affected the plans for the No. 2 wide receiver slot opposite Nico Collins. Candidates like Xavier Hutchinson, who showed improvement last season, and Jaylin Noel, recognized for his playmaking skills, are now vying for that position.

While there is optimism for Dell's return to form, it remains unclear when he will be able to contribute fully on the field.
