A temporary restraining order from a Dallas court has enabled 18 college football players, including SMU free safety Ahmaad Moses, to extend their eligibility for a fifth year during the 2026 season.
This decision comes just ahead of the college football season and follows the Wisne v. NCAA ruling on July 31, which initially allowed athletes who graduated high school in 2022 to gain an additional year. The NCAA's appeal of this earlier ruling has been temporarily set aside by the court's new injunction.
Ahmaad Moses, recognized as a First Team All-ACC selection in 2025, has participated in 54 games and started 19 during his tenure with the Mustangs. He played a key role in SMU's achievements, including a conference title in 2023 and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024. Last season, he led the Mustangs with 104 tackles and five interceptions, contributing significantly to the team's defense.
Moses's return follows a challenging period after declaring for the NFL Draft, during which he underwent spinal fusion surgery due to a herniated disk. His recovery has allowed him to qualify for this additional eligibility under the ACC's new rules.
He has been active in fall camp and is anticipated to participate in the Mustangs' season opener against Florida State on September 7, barring any NCAA appeals. The list of players granted the TRO also includes notable athletes from other schools, such as Jordan Hudson from SMU and D’Mon Brinson from UConn.
