Von Miller, hailing from DeSoto and a former Texas A&M player, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys that starts at $5.5 million and could rise to $7.5 million based on performance incentives. This signing is particularly meaningful for Miller as he returns to play for his hometown team.

At the age of 37, Miller proved his value last season with nine sacks. His impressive resume includes two Super Bowl victories, multiple All-Pro honors, and numerous Pro Bowl selections, which positions him as a valuable asset for the Cowboys.

While some analysts may not view this signing as the major trade that would significantly improve the pass rush, Miller's addition is expected to strengthen the outside linebacker (OLB) unit. The Cowboys are projected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, with two more on the practice squad.

The anticipated starters are Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku, while Miller and Malachi Lawrence are expected to serve as key backups. James Houston is likely to be the fifth OLB due to his contributions last season, especially on special teams.

The competition for the final OLB position is between Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, with Liufau potentially having an advantage due to his versatility and special teams performance last year. The predicted OLB depth chart includes Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Malachi Lawrence, Von Miller, James Houston, and Marist Liufau, although final roster decisions are still pending.
