The Dallas Cowboys signed running back Israel Abanikanda from their practice squad after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that will require surgery. Abanikanda is expected to serve as Dallas’ third running back. Davis had been behind Javonte Williams on the depth chart and was competing with Jaydon Blue during training camp.
Dallas waived Blue after the preseason and claimed Emari Demercado from Kansas City. Demercado is scheduled to back up Williams against the New York Giants, while fullback Hunter Luepke remains on the roster. A projection for the game set the over-under at 48.5 points.
Nick Harris selected Dallas to win and forecast a lower-scoring result, pointing to the team’s experience, opening week and potentially difficult weather.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is expected to relay many defensive calls through the communication helmet, though other players are ready to take over when defensive packages change. Dallas is also evaluating offensive-line choices. Veteran tackle D.J.
Humphries is available after Washington released him. Arizona drafted Humphries 24th overall in 2015, and he became a regular starter the following year before injuries affected his Cardinals tenure through 2023.
