The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots acquired Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round draft selection for 2028.
At just 24 years old, Boutte found himself facing stiff competition for playing time after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to their roster. Other wide receivers on the team include DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, which limited Boutte's chances to contribute.
Head coach Mike Vrabel stated that the trade would benefit Boutte by providing him with more opportunities in Houston, where he would not remain inactive as he might have in New England. He remarked on the depth at the wide receiver position, indicating that the decision was likely the best for everyone involved.
Last season, Boutte played in 14 games, achieving 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. Vrabel acknowledged the difficulty of the decision to trade Boutte, praising his positive attitude and development as a player.
As he joins the Texans, Boutte is expected to take on a backup role behind established starters Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel, though specifics of his role remain unclear.
