Nate Bennett is expected to take Baylor’s quarterback duties if DJ Lagway cannot play against Louisiana Tech in Week 3. Bennett’s first start came in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M, when the junior completed 26 of 34 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns.
Bennett also gained 13 yards on the ground and scored a rushing touchdown in that game, but he threw two interceptions. Edward Griffin is listed as QB2 on Baylor’s depth chart, followed by Quinn Murphy as QB3.
Lagway is doubtful because of an ankle sprain suffered in Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn. The junior played in that game after transferring from Florida, but he missed the Prairie View A&M contest. Coach Dave Aranda said earlier in the week that Lagway participated in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated through his practice work.
The injury is not expected to sideline Lagway for a month or longer, although it is unclear whether he could play in an emergency against Louisiana Tech. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes Lagway will return for its Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday. Lagway’s status remains uncertain. Source: fansided.com
