The Houston Cougars have enhanced their defensive capabilities by signing Myles Rowser, a safety who previously played for the Arizona State Sun Devils. This move comes in light of new NCAA eligibility regulations that allow certain players from the 2022 class, who did not redshirt or enter into a professional NFL contract, to secure an additional year of eligibility.
Rowser's collegiate career includes playing at Campbell in 2022, New Mexico State in 2023, and Arizona State from 2024 to 2025. He did not redshirt during his freshman year and participated in nine games for the Campbell Camels. Although he attended a rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks, he did not sign a professional contract.
Over his career, Rowser has accumulated a total of 295 tackles, which includes 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and 16 passes defended. In the 2025 season, he played in all games for Arizona State, achieving a career-high of 84 tackles, four tackles for loss, three passes defended, and a fumble recovery, earning a spot on the All-Big 12 Third Team.
The Cougars already have a solid safety lineup with veterans Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen, who recorded 71 and 48 tackles respectively last season. They have also signed Tulane safety Javion White, who contributed 50 tackles last year. With Rowser joining the team, the Cougars may consider adjusting their defensive strategy, possibly shifting one of their safeties to the nickel corner position.
This depth positions the Cougars to be competitive in the Big 12, making Rowser a key addition to their roster.
