Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is doubtful for Saturday’s game with Louisiana Tech as he recovers from an ankle injury, leaving Nate Bennett in position to make a second consecutive start. Coach Dave Aranda said Lagway felt good during a Sunday practice, and the quarterback was slated to take part in the team’s work during the week.
Lagway hurt the ankle in Baylor’s 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn. He remained on the field and threw for 333 yards, with two touchdown passes and one interception. A wrap was visible on the injured ankle afterward.
He did not play in Baylor’s next game, a 44-3 victory over Prairie View A&M, in which Bennett completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards. Bennett also threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score.
Reports point to a possible Lagway return when Baylor opens Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26. On3’s Pete Nakos said Lagway is projected to be available for that matchup, while Baylor continues to monitor him cautiously. The Bears will face Louisiana Tech first, and Colorado is set to play Northwestern before its trip to Baylor.
The road game is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT and could feature Lagway against Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis if he is cleared to return. Source: si.com
