Trent Brown’s updated Houston contract can now provide as much as $2.5 million in 2026 playtime bonuses, up from the previous $1.5 million maximum. Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti detailed the changes Sept. 16 in a post on X.
The revised package pays $500,000 when Brown reaches each of five playing-time marks: 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. Over The Cap’s Troy Chapman previously reported that the change did not alter Brown’s salary-cap charge or initial cash flow. The incentives were added to the original terms rather than replacing them.
Houston re-signed Brown during the 2026 offseason to a one-year, $5.5 million contract. He opened the season as the team’s right tackle after remaining with Houston through the offseason program. In 2025, injuries limited him to seven regular-season starts and one playoff start.
The Texans also signed Braden Smith to a two-year, $20 million deal, but Smith went on injured reserve and did not take over the starting role. Pro Football Focus ranked Brown as Houston’s third-highest-rated offensive lineman and sixth-best pass blocker in Week 1, behind Aireontae Ersery and Evan Brown. Brown has played for four teams and has started 104 of 111 career games.
