The Houston Texans are looking to strengthen their defensive lineup as they face injury challenges. On August 22, KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson reported that the team evaluated defensive end Devean Deal, an undrafted free agent from TCU who has experience with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year.
During his collegiate career, Deal recorded a total of 176 tackles and 13 sacks across two seasons at TCU and three at Tulane. The Texans have recently added linebacker Caleb Johnson to their roster but are still searching for ways to bolster their team amid injury concerns, including the absence of Jadeveon Clowney and Logan Hall, with specific reasons for their injuries not disclosed.
Previously signed by the Seahawks, Deal was released to accommodate new additions, such as undrafted rookie receivers Rashad Rochelle and Trayvon Rudolph. The Texans are in a comparable situation, having signed veteran receivers Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones while placing linebacker K.C. Ossai on injured reserve.
As the Texans prepare for their season opener against the Buffalo Bills, discussions regarding Deal's potential signing continue, though no agreement has been reached yet.
