Dallas’ flight is about 5,220 miles each way, making the round trip nearly 10,500 miles, an NFL record for an international trip without a following bye. Baltimore’s journey from its home city is approximately 4,781 miles.
The game is set for 5:25 p.m. local time in Rio, where clocks are one hour ahead of Eastern Time. CBS Sports’ schedule analysis indicates the teams could leave Brazil after midnight. Dallas’ flight home is expected to exceed 10 hours, potentially bringing the Cowboys back to Dallas near noon on Monday.
In Week 4, Dallas is scheduled to visit Houston, while Baltimore is set to host Tennessee.
Earlier teams making similar journeys received added recovery time. The Rams’ London trip last season covered 5,456 miles and was followed by a bye. The Rams and San Francisco 49ers traveled more than 7,800 miles to Australia for a Week 1 game, then had at least 10 days before their next contests.
The two previous NFL games in Brazil also were played in Week 1. Before Dallas, Denver’s 4,670-mile London flight in Week 6 last season was the longest trip without a subsequent bye. Miami also made a trip of at least 4,400 miles in 2021 without a bye.
