Milton, drafted in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, demonstrated his strong arm during preseason games. Although he only appeared in one regular-season game with the Patriots, his potential was evident to both fans and coaches. In April 2025, he was traded to the Cowboys, where he participated in four games without starting, gaining essential experience as a young quarterback.
After being waived at the end of August, Milton chose to return to the Cowboys' practice squad, signaling his contentment with the team's direction. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are optimistic about Milton's continued development.
The Cowboys will begin their 2026 season on September 13 against the New York Giants, with Jaxson Dart as the starting quarterback.
