Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino is out for the remainder of the season with a leg injury sustained against Prairie View A&M on Saturday. Head coach Dave Aranda confirmed the injury after the game.
Tezino was hurt on Baylor’s second offensive play from scrimmage, when a Prairie View A&M offensive lineman made a cut block. Tezino called for medical personnel and was later taken from the field by cart. Aranda said the fifth-year senior from Killeen had been playing the best football of his career.
Tezino began the season with two sacks and a tipped pass that became an interception against Auburn. He had dealt with injuries last fall but played in all 12 games, starting seven. That season, he recorded 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup. In 29 games at Baylor, he has 56 tackles.
Baylor has depth on its defensive line, but Tezino is the second starter lost for the season. Safety Jacob Redding is the other player identified as having a season-ending injury. SicEm365 reported Tezino’s injury and Aranda’s comments.
