A football player from Texas Christian University (TCU) was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed after an alleged incident involving a teammate. The altercation reportedly took place on August 13 in the locker room, where former TCU safety Jacob Fields allegedly punched wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the forehead and kicked him in the head.
Ezukanma was subsequently diagnosed with a brain bleed, a concussion, and a strained AC joint.
Fields has been removed from the team and surrendered to authorities on Sunday. An arrest affidavit revealed that Ezukanma believed the attack was motivated by competition during practice, as Fields felt he was underperforming.
Following the incident, Fields expressed regret in text messages to Ezukanma, stating, "I made an emotional decision cause of how I felt played the last few practices" and offered to pay for Ezukanma’s hospital expenses.
Ezukanma's family reported that he is recovering and looks forward to returning to the field once cleared by medical professionals. His sister, Emelie Ezukanma, emphasized the need for accountability. Meanwhile, TCU is managing the fallout from the incident while focusing on their season after a recent loss.
