Wembanyama scores 19 as Spurs beat Suns 123-103 in preseason

Victor Wembanyama needed only 23 minutes to score 19 points Wednesday as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Phoenix Suns 123-103 in a preseason game at Frost Bank Center.

Wembanyama shot 9 of 14 from the field, blocked four shots and added four rebounds and three assists.

How it turned

The Suns led 23-22 after one quarter before San Antonio outscored them 38-26 in the second for a 60-49 halftime edge. The Spurs won the third quarter 32-26 and the fourth 31-28.

San Antonio made 13 of 35 3-point attempts and 30 of 35 free throws. Phoenix was 7 of 31 from deep and 12 of 15 at the line.

Other contributors

Stephon Castle scored 18 points, Carter Bryant had 16 and Ja'Kobi Gillespie added 13 with four assists. Tarris Reed Jr. pulled down nine rebounds.

For Phoenix, Jamaree Bouyea and Ryan Dunn each scored 15. Bouyea added eight assists.

The win was San Antonio's first of the preseason; both teams are now 1-3. Attendance was 18,354.
